Well, we were heading up to Cairns for the day, a 4-hour drive up from Townsville.  It then hit me, why do we not just stay in Cairns for a couple of nights and then drive down to the Herbert Valley Motel. 

Well, the Wongalinga Beachside Apartments. What a day when we arrived here at mission beach, high winds, and sporadic rain, not a great way to start a mini trip by a gorgeous beach surrounding.

This place was a lovely slice of one of the most historic mining towns in Queensland; Charters Tower is a unique slice of Australia. It is just about an hour and a half from Townsville and is worth the drive inland.

So when you think of the barrier reef, what do you think. The beautiful corals? The animated clownfish of Finding Nemo? Either way, here you will see both.

So after a long drive up from Mackay to Townsville, we headed to the local brewery. So we had contacted them in advance in the hope of being given a behind the scenes tour.

What a little find this was! We have eaten some traditional Spanish tapas in the province of Andalusia. Maris Donkey Tapas Bar has been present in Bundaberg for the past 5 or 6 years now. However, this place, in the hot box that is Australia, could put some of the Spanish places a run for there money.
