A Day to Find Camden’s Punk Vibe

A few days ago, I decided to go back to London after five years away from this beautiful city. This time I travelled alone, far from what I did with my high school. My should is gothic, and my heart is punk, so I chose to establish my headquarters in Camden to fully enjoy its pubs. I booked a room in the wonderful Camden BnB, located only ten minutes walk to Camden Town underground station, from where I could experience Camden’s life.

This district was the place of birth of the punk movement in London. Even though punk people had left this place a few decades ago now, you still have these amazing building façades which are testimonies of Camden’s past. You enter in a punk Disneyworld, with its toy-like Dc. Martens shoes or dragon sculptures on the buildings. However, there is a more picturesque Camden. One which is not that easy to find as you have to explore and get lost in the Camden Market to find. Once you find the Camden Stables, you can admire beautiful horse sculptures and the particular atmosphere of this place with its cosy yellow light.

You will find yourself wandering through the alleys of vintage and ethnic shops. You will be trapped in this beautiful, intimate place until it would be time to have lunch and you would follow the smell of food coming from all continents that you will be able to eat on Camden Locks. Here you feel the truly cosmopolitan side of London.

However, London would not be what it is without its traditional food, so you could make your way to Poppies to take away a delicious fish and chips, and continue to explore Camden and find all its beautiful street art pieces. And why not at the end of the day, getting a true punk tattoo in one of the several Camden’s tattoo parlors? To end this perfect day in this district I suggest you go drink some beer and listen to live music at The Devonshire Arms, a true punk and goth pub.

This way you would fully experience the punk and cosmopolitan vibes of this district. Then, you would just have to walk down the streets and explore to find your very own Camden treasures. I could tell you more about this short trip, but what makes it unforgettable is all the persons you meet and all the treasures you find when you get lost.
