What to do when you only have a day in York

If you ever wanted to see a quaint traditional English town with a lot of heritage, then this town is the place to be.

We parked up just outside of town, but we were lucky enough to find a space really, as there is very limited places to park but it does have multiple park and ride sites, so if in doubt you can always use them.

As we walked into town, we came across this lovely old bridge, it was very prominent and we later found out it was part of the old city walls.

We continued walking and ventured further into town because we wanted to find the famous ‘shambles’ street.

This street is famous because the tudors built the houses so close together, that when the upper floors windows are open people could shake hands with their opposite neighbours. This cramped cobbled street so easily took you back in time, with its traditional tiny shop fronts selling everything you can imagine. Even Lee was swayed and bought a traditionally made pork pie (although the filling was sweet chilli pork, so a little modern day life in there too, hehe).

We continued to walk through the lovely little streets until we came to York minster, wow just wow. This stunning and I really mean stunning building is amazing! The mix of stained glass, gargoyles, and sculptures on the fascia of this place was incredible. I was in complete ore, the inside is just as beautiful as the outside and I’m was so glad Lee got loads of pictures. If you only have time to see one quick thing in York, definitely go there.

We walked down the hill towards to railway museum we spotted a lot of local ruins of what looked like maybe some kind of church, this was just outside York museum, we didn’t make it round the inside as we really wanted to head towards the railway museum before it closed.

Our time is york was short but it really is a beautiful place, we love the preserved history and we even got to see the rest of the old city walls as we were walking around.
