So it was a rather spare of the moment, but we decided to take a drive to this beautiful little town. We were staying in Carin’s (about an hour away) and thought we would take a relaxing trip to this beautiful city.
It was evident to us that this city was a lot more affluent than its neighbouring city of Cairns (well kind of neighbours), everywhere was a combination of large houses, immaculate gardens, beautiful views, and well-finished homes.
We climbed Orchid hill to the very top, and the view was spectacular. Even on this slightly misty murky day, that view was stunning and made both me and Lee stood in awe for longer then we should. Isn’t it funny how an awe-inspiring view can make you ponder the things in your life?
We ventured back into the main town; this mostly consisted of restaurants, cafes, bars, and boutique shops and of course wanted to indulge a little and tried a local Ice-cream.
Well, the Wicked Ice Cream Co. Or the not so Wicked Ice Cream Co as it should be called. Everywhere we have eaten ice cream you have the ability to sample some before you buy. Yes, I understand trying every flavour and then leaving after you have had your feed. But if you are on the fence and need to try before committing it would be good to have that option. But not here, as you can see from the picture below. It clearly states NO TASTERS! This was shocking, but I wanted to have some sweet ice cream.
So I gambled and tried some caramel and then a scoop of Mars. Both were incredibly sweet. Almost too sweet, I think I was still buzzing 5 hours later. Needless to say, I was left disappointed and somewhere we will never visit again. It cost a fortune for what it was as well. But I guess that is due to being in the very expensive Port Douglas.
It was a short a sweet visit, get it sweet. But it is a stopping point if you’re thinking of travelling up that far and like the finer things in life.
